We went to Capliano Park to walk the big wiggly suspension bridge and do the treetop and cliff walk trails in the rainforest. This park was much more touristy than yesterday’s park, but it was worth it and fun to walk among the treetops and even along the cliff face. The wiggly bridge was a bit much for me, but I didn’t completely freak out. After crossing it and getting our obligatory selfies, we stopped for a quick bite of mini pancakes called Otter Balls that are made in a similar pan as the Swedish Æbleskiver pancakes only slightly flatter and looked like little UFOs, and we encountered the most adorable but very bold tiny squirrel who clearly knows that food can be scavenged from people, and he was so aggressively begging that we were afraid to sit down lest he climb right on us!
We then meandered about the treetops along the suspension bridges all along in the forest. They apparently built the whole thing so as not to harm any of the trees and that made me happy. There were lots of meandering paths in the woods, and at first we were enjoying a relatively tame amount of tourists, but suddenly a few bus loads of Italian tourists descended into the woods and it became quite busy. We decided to hit the cafe before the throngs and we were glad we did. We enjoyed a delicious brunch and freshly squeezed juice drink that was AMAZING! It was strawberry, mango and ginger beer all blended together, it really hit the spot after the hot hike! After lunch, we did the cliff walk, which I wasn’t able to get many photos of because they only have limited spots along the path to take photos, but it is a path of maybe three wooden boards wide suspended with wiggly but incredibly strong cables and netting, and somehow drilled into the cliff face. It was pretty scary, and once you get on there’s no turning back, you can only go one way and no stopping except at designated photo opp points, but it’s not too long of a hike, maybe a quarter mile, if that, and the view is pretty.
Then after a bit of drama with a minor tour bus fender bender, we were off to chillax at the Airbnb for a rest from the sun and tourists for a couple of hours before setting out for Stanley Park again to see the Totem Poles, get a few gifties, then grabbed dinner at The Three Brits restaurant, then calling it a day to get home for a shower and packing up. The heat and sore feet made me pretty cranky by the time we got home, and the second night of Shania Twain concert noise kept me from getting to sleep, but I had scattered sleep eventually and happy that we will be back in our own bed tonight.
